Are your weekly newspapers piling up at home after you have read them? Do you not know what to do with these papers? There are two organisations that would be more than happy to take them off your hands.

The Roodepoort/ Krugersdorp SPCA and Community Led Animal Welfare (CLAW) are both in desperate need of newspapers for their animal hospitals.

Both Claw and the SPCA use newspapers to line the hospital cages being used for animals that have undergone surgery and need to be cared for. The newspaper is changed several times a day, so the more backup papers they have, the better.

These two animal-care facilities are pleading with community members to donate their old newspapers instead of throwing them away.

To donate your newspapers to CLAW, you can either drop them off at the CLAW Clinic in Durban Deep or arrangements can be made for a volunteer to collect them.

Volunteers can collect from Northcliff, Randburg, Randpark Ridge, Florida, North Riding, Horison, Ontdekkers Park and surrounding areas. The SPCA has unfortunately lost one of their vehicles recently, so collection may not be possible. However, you can still drop off your old newspapers at their premises, 3 Nadine Street, Florida. If the Roodepoort/ Krugersdorp SPCA manager, Mandy Cattanach, is not there to accept the papers, there is a security guard at the premises all day every day that can assist with taking the newspapers.
