Opportunities for the youth thanks to sponsors

While working with the young people he realised how many of them who have finished their matric year did not have a job.

Every year thousand of learners finish school but the sad reality is that not all of them finish with a plan or opportunities for a future.

That is where Thabo Jama from Black888 and Robert Mkomonde from Soft Touch Traders (STT) come in. Together these two men have been sponsoring out-of-work youths to get their security certificate.

Thabo started his brand, Black888, about two years ago, focusing on handing out food parcels, sanitizers and uplifting youth by helping them with skills development and finding a job.

He then approached Robert who had started his company in 2018 and has been offering training since August 2019. He has been sponsoring students for the past eight months.

The two men’s latest group received their certificates on Tuesday, 4 August. They sponsor people in their early 20s and 30s, and the duration of the classes is three weeks. Robert sponsors the registration and certificates, while Thabo sponsors food and transport.

“I promised myself that one day when God answers my prayers, I will give back to the community. Now I have the opportunity,” said Thabo.

Robert wants their initiative to be adopted by other companies as well.

With the certificate the students can become security guards, but Robert said he will later help them with another course. Eventually, they will be able to study business management, leaving them with endless opportunities for the future.

Robert and Thabo are calling on other companies to assist them as they want to take their training programme to other communities as well.

If you would like to assist them, contact Robert on 060 411 5134 or Thabo on 074 539 4249.
