Girl, 15, raped by older cousin

Police reveals shocking incident of rape by a family member.

A 15-year-old girl was raped by her older cousin at their family home in Kagiso.

Kagiso Police have since arrested the 24-year-old man.

According to Captain Solomon Sibiya, Kagiso Police spokesperson, the victim alleged that she was home alone on Saturday, 8 August. She then fell asleep on the couch.

“Her cousin (the suspect), arrived at about 1am and called her by her name. When she woke up she was shocked to see him naked and staring at her. He then allegedly ordered her to his bedroom but when she refused, he forced her and raped her throughout the night. He only allowed her to leave in the morning.”

According to Sibiya, the victim’s mother was not home when the incident took place and her daughter only managed to tell her about it two days later.

The matter was brought to the attention of the police on Tuesday, 11 August, and they immediately traced and arrested the suspect.

“Women of all ages look up to men to protect, love and cherish them. Gender-based violence has taught us that many women out there suffer in silence for various reasons. Men who do not protect, but instead see women and girl children as sex toys or punching bags, must be exposed and shamed. The mother must also be investigated to determine if she was negligent, which led to her child being raped,” warned Brigadier Themba Maduna, the Kagiso Police station commander.
