Muldersdrift man arrested for rape of 7-year-old boy

'The man instructed the boy to undress, and pushed him onto the bed. He covered his face with a pillow and raped him' – Police.

Muldersdrift Police arrested a 61-year-old man on Tuesday, 1 September after he had raped a seven-year-old boy on a plot in Rietfontein.

Constable Boitumelo Sehloho of the Muldersdrift Police’s communications department said the man sent the young boy to the shops during the day on Monday, 31 August. “On his return he instructed him to undress.

He pushed the boy onto the bed, covered his face with a pillow and raped him,” Constable Sehloho said in the statement.

Sehloho added that gender-based violence (GBV) is a main focus of the South African Police Service’s national strategy to decrease crime against women and children. She added that rape cases are among the priorities in the Muldersdrift precinct area. The suspect will appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court soon.

Muldersdrift Police have since released some tips and advice for parents:

• Parents must always know the whereabouts of their children.

• Children must not be left in the care of strangers.

• Parents must teach their children not to enter strangers’ vehicles or houses.

Lieutenant Colonel Mankontsho Setlhare, the Muldersdrift Police station commander applauded his members for arresting the suspect so quickly.

We will make sure that perpetrators of crimes against women and children are brought to book and face the full might of the law,” said Setlhare.

They are calling on the community to continue sharing information on the Crime Stop line on 08600 10111 or on the Muldersdrift Police Station numbers 011 952 4600 and 011 952 4641.
