Attacker drags girl, 16, down street alongside moving vehicle

'She fell on her knees but the man continued to drag her a few metres further' – Police.

A man, who refused to take no for an answer, dragged a 16-year-old girl down the street alongside a moving car during the weekend. The man is now being sought by the Kagiso Police.

Captain Solomon Sibiya, Kagiso Police spokesperson explained that the girl who is from central Kagiso logged a complaint after the incident on Monday, 7 September. She claims to know the man.

The victim explained to police that she was walking on Themba Street at about 7.30pm on Sunday, 6 September, when she came across a man whom she knows well.

They had a social conversation but the man later wanted to leave and take the victim with him. She was against the idea and that led him to using force to get her into his motor vehicle,” explained Sibiya.

When the victim resisted the man grabbed her arm, switched on the car and started driving while still holding on to the girl’s arm.

“She fell on her knees but the man continued to drag her a few metres further. She sustained injuries to her knees and was later referred to hospital,” Sibiya said.

They are appealing to the community to assist them with information about the whereabouts of the man. The public can contact them on 011 696 9000, 011 696 9059, 011 696 9065 or 011 696 9067.

Gender-based violence is a serious challenge in our societies. We urge parents to advise and nurture boy children to respect the opposite sex, refrain from using bullying tactics on girls, and know what ‘no’ means. We are going to arrest the suspect and the law must take its course,” Brigadier Themba Maduna, the Kagiso Police station commander warned.
