Five men have since been arrested and will face attempted murder charges.

Five men have been arrested in connection with the assault and attempted murder of a security guard in August.

In a statement by Muldersdrift Police’s spokesperson, Constable Boitumelo Sehloho, she explained that the five men between the ages of 25 and 38 are facing charges of attempted murder, and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The men are accused of assaulting a 44-year-old security guard who was on duty on 17 August at around 7pm. The victim told the police that he was instructed by his supervisor to move from his post to another post, and later was told to get into a vehicle.

He was then dropped off at a dam where he was assaulted and shot five times. Sehloho said all the suspects will appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court soon.

The Muldersdrift Police station commander applauded his members for arresting the suspects and warned the community that if they take the law into their own hands, they will be brought to book and face the full might of the law,” read the statement.

The community can report crimes on the Crime Stop hotline on 08600 10111 or to the Muldersdrift Police on 011 952 4600 or 011 952 4641.
