Virtual open days now a thing

Curro's High School, Primary School and Curro Castle Nursery School each now has its own 360 degree walk-through virtual tours on Google.

It’s fast becoming that time of the year again when parents start looking for and assessing schools to help them decide where to send their young ones next year.

Usually, in these last four months, schools would be hosting a few open days with accompanying fanfare to welcome prospective parents and learners, to show them around the school facilities and introduce them to teachers.

Unfortunately, 2020 is no ordinary year.

With the global pandemic having halted many of our normal daily activities, schools are looking towards alternative methods of welcoming the newcomers. Curro Krugersdorp believes it has cracked the code by entering into the digital sphere.

Curro has for the past few years been at the forefront of technology within their schools, and found it quite easy to make the transition to an online school tour. Curro’s High School, Primary School and Curro Castle Nursery School each now has its own 360 degree walk-through virtual tours onĀ Google.

Amoryn Wright, Curro Krugersdorp marketer explained that, “Unlike a conventional video or slide show of images, this interactive, moving picture continues uninterrupted and allows the viewer navigation agency. Such an impression allows the viewer to take a virtual walk: their view of the space will change as they pan the room.

To execute this,” she continued, “3D Tours makes use of a 360 degree camera similar to those seen on the roof of a Google Street View car. When this is complete, the media captured by the camera is placed on an artificial-intelligence platform that stitches the 360 degree imagery or videos together to create the moving, immersive and interactive tour.”

If you click on the arrows at the bottom of the web page, and virtually take a walk through the halls, classrooms and playgrounds of the schools, informative pop-ups will appear every now and again at specified segments with information on the school and its facilities.

When you enter the playground area in Curro Castle, the pop-up reads: “Our small class sizes allow our dedicated and qualified teachers to engage each child in our internally developed play based curriculum and to build strong, caring relationships with each child”.

The High School and Primary School virtual tours will be shared on Curro’s social media pages, but the Curro Castle walk-through can be viewed now by clicking here.

At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention. Happy reading!
