Drum Riders Family jamming at first live session

The Drum Riders family group recently hosted their first live session that included performances and street art for the community of Magaliesberg.

The community from Magaliesburg was treated to live music and art from the Drum Riders Family recently. Drum Riders Family calls themselves a music movement that aims at bringing an Afrocentric vibe to the music industry.

They focus on developing young artists in the house music industry as well as bringing a new vibe to their clients. They do sound hire and entertain crowds with their drums and dance routines.

“We aim to become an experience,” said Lesego Mmutlane from the Drum Riders Family.

During the lockdown this group realised the need for artists and DJs to have a platform to express themselves. That is how they came up with the plan for their first-ever live session, which was hosted on 5 September.

We came up with these live sessions as a means to bridge the gap between the crowd who has been locked up (during lockdown) and is hungry for fun, and the creatives who have also been in need of a space to express themselves,” Lesego explained.

Although the company was started a few years ago, they say their passion had been there long before that. They started out with a small sound system they got from home and the group just grew from there. They say that their music and sound are more of a passion to them than anything else.

Although their core function is the music, one of the group’s founding members is also a street artist, and sometimes their music and art go hand in hand.

Lesego explained that although this was their first live session they have seen the market warming up to the idea of being out and about slowly, and they are thinking of hosting live sessions twice a month at some time.

“But we’re still working on logistics, as being hosts to such events tend to be a bit of a costly exercise, but we’re getting there,” he said.

He called their first live session a success and said the crowd came out in numbers. Although there is always room for improvement he explained that the support was there.

So we’re gonna work even harder and plan even smarter so that the next one becomes an even bigger success.”
