Late night Krugersdorp crash leaves man, 21, critical

A 21-year-old man had to be airlifted after he was found trapped in his bakkie in a critical condition.

A young man was rushed to hospital in a critical condition following a collision between a bakkie and a truck-and-trailer at the Moorcroft Avenue and Luipaardstreet intersection in Krugersdorp on Wednesday night, 16 September.

Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson explained that the 21-year-old man was left critically injured.

ER24 paramedics, along with the Krugersdorp Fire Services, arrived on the scene and found the wrecked bakkie in the middle of the road. The 21-year-old male driver was found lying trapped in the vehicle in a critical condition,” said Meiring.

The young man had to be freed from the wreckage with the help of specialised equipment. Once freed he was treated on scene by advanced life support medics before being airlifted to a private hospital for further medical care.

“The driver of the truck was treated for his minor injuries and transported to a nearby hospital. Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations,” Meiring said.
