Visibility campaign scares off potential criminals

Very early in the night, the group chased two suspects in Krugersdorp West but the two men unfortunately disappeared into an underground tunnel.

Every three months or so, Mogale City’s emergency service departments, security company groups, community policing forum sectors and AfriForum neighbourhood watch come together for a show of force in hopes of scaring off potential criminals.

On Friday night, 18 September, the groups gathered again to light up the town and surrounding farm areas with their various flashing lights, warning criminals of their presence.

This is the largest visibility campaign that AfriForum has organised to date, and very few areas in town were not covered. All of this is part of an attempt to expand and reach more areas on a more regular basis, and create better cohesion between the two groups.

Very early in the night, the group chased two suspects in Krugersdorp West but the two men unfortunately disappeared into an underground tunnel.

Only a few minutes later a call came in and a man riding a motorcycle recklessly in Noordheuwel was identified. He was carrying an unconcealed weapon and his motorcycle was unlicensed. Throughout the night the groups also made visits to high-crime areas where they believed narcotics dealers were stationed.

For the most part, the night went by without much action, but they achieved their goal of showing the town that they would not tolerate crime and would be patrolling the streets regularly.
