Seven arrested in Kagiso crackdown

The operation focused on stops and searches, illegal drugs, unlicensed liquor outlets, drunken driving as well as ensuring liquor stores comply with Level 1 lockdown regulations.

Police recently made their presence felt when support officers, crime-prevention members and the District Visible Policing members enforced the law in the Kagiso policing precinct.

Captain Solomon Sibiya, Kagiso Police spokesperson said the operation, which was led by Lieutenant Colonel Duploy started at 2pm on Friday, 2 October and lasted until 10pm that evening.

The operation focused on stops and searches, illegal drugs, unlicensed liquor outlets, drunken driving as well as ensuring liquor stores comply with Level 1 lockdown regulations.

During the intensified operation seven persons found themselves on the wrong side of the law and were put behind bars,” said Sibiya.

The arrests were made for a number of crimes: two for dealing in liquor without a licence, two for dealing in dagga, two for driving under the influence and one for smoking dagga in public.

“I want to thank my officers for displaying commitment and willingness to serve our law-abiding residents in such trying times. I also wish to point out that such operations are here to stay as we have realised that some people are not prepared to respect the rule of law. We will honour our mandate to restore law and order in our society – that is a promise,” warned Kagiso Police station commander, Brigadier Themba Maduna.
