Public warned against job listing scams

Municipality warns members of the public against job scams doing the rounds.

The Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) wishes to inform residents of reported fraudulent postings/ offers for positions at the municipality doing the rounds.

“In the latest scam, unsuspecting job seekers often receive SMSes from the number 073 310 3617, inviting to or requesting them to secure a booking for a job interview – usually an Admin Clerk position – that they may or may not have applied for. Some job seekers receive calls from the mobile number 066 398 5742, inviting them to a job interview,” explained Refilwe Mabena, MCLM communications officer.

The MCLM reiterated that applying for any position at the municipality is free of charge and that anyone requesting money is breaking the law.

All vacant positions, tenders and quotes are advertised in regional newspapers and on the municipal websites only. If a job listing does not also appear on www.mogalecity.gov.za, it does not exist.

If you did not contact Mogale City for a job, but the municipality supposedly contacts you with a job offer, it’s a scam,” Mabena noted.

“MCLM never sends shortlisted candidates job offers or interview invitations via SMS or email.”

The MCLM urged anyone with information on such fraudulent job postings to contact the Corporate Ethics Division on 011 951 2595, 011 951 1719 or send an email to aubrey.thalane@mogalecity.gov.za.
