WATCH: Curro 2020 matrics start new tradition

As a final act of celebration and starting a tradition, the bell was rung twice to say farewell and good luck to the 2020 matrics of Curro Krugersdorp High School.

The final days of high school have come for many, filled with joy and hints of sadness as matric learners have to say goodbye to a fundamental part of their young adult lives.

During one penultimate hall assembly, learners from all grades and staff alike had the opportunity to bid the 2020 matric group a heartfelt farewell. Thereafter, the matric group became the first to participate in Curro Krugersdorp High School’s newest tradition.

Watch the bell ceremony here:

Curro Krugersdorp’s Executive Head, Annemarie Lombard and Head of the high school, Russel Hardy each rang the bell five times to represent the five years the learners had spent at the high school.

Thereafter, one by one the learners made their way to the newly erected bell, hanging from a solid arch which will stand as a symbol of matrics past, present and future for many years to come. The bell was rung once, then twice as each matric signalled the end of their time at the school.

As a final act of celebration and starting a tradition, the other learners lined the school’s driveway on both sides as a tribute while the matric group walked past them towards the gate, with the Curro flag flying high. The flag was ultimately handed over to the Grade 11 group, representing the passing of the torch from the old to the new.

“The school management team as well as every learner and teacher at Curro Krugersdorp would like to wish the matrics the best of luck with their final exams that commenced on 15 October 2020,” said Curro Krugersdorp Marketing’s Amoryn Wright.
