Two arrested in mass joint effort in Muldersdrift

Two suspects were arrested when CPF, security and the Muldersdrift Police worked together.

The community of Muldersdrift showed that working together pays off when two suspects were arrested after a robbery this past weekend.

Sergeant Mulalo Ndou from the Muldersdrift Police explained that they have opened an investigation into a case of attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

On Saturday night at about 8.14pm a local security officer received a call from one of the Community Policing Forum members to inform him that their dogs were barking strangely.

The security officer responded to the call to investigate and saw three people carrying a TV while running away. He then informed his colleagues to also look out for them, and the police were called.

One of the security officers who was patrolling along the N14 highway spotted a suspicious white Toyota Quantum and stopped it,” Ndou explained.

As he approached the Quantum the occupants started shooting at him and made their escape. The security officer gave chase and shot back, which resulted in two suspects being wounded.

“They were arrested on the scene,” Ndou confirmed while adding that three other suspects managed to get away

One unlicensed firearm and stolen property were recovered from the scene.

Captain Buti David Phiri, the acting Muldersdrift Police station commander said he was concerned about the house robberies happening in the area, especially as firearms are being used.

He was also proud of his members and other stakeholders for their swift reaction, which led to the successful arrests, and appealed to the community to continue assisting them with information that could lead to tracing the other three suspects.

The community are reminded that they can report any criminal activity to the Crime Stop line on 08600 10111 or on the My SAPS app. They can also phone the Muldersdrift Police Station on 011 952 4600.
