APCAN assists in keeping Krugersdorp safe: Two serious incidents reported

APCAN assisted police on two occasions already in November and they warn that residents must keep safe as house break-in are becoming more common.

The start of November has been busy for APCAN security.

On Monday, 9 November, their reaction officers responded to a panic button activation at a business in Krugersdorp North. When the reaction officer arrived, he was informed that an armed robbery had taken place.

Three people, pretending to be customers, entered the business and while two of them pretended to be browsing, the third one pointed a firearm at the cashier and demanded all the money in the cash register.

The robbers made off with the money and the police were called.

On Wednesday, 11 November, the APCAN Tactical Response Force (TRF) unit received information on a community group about a man and woman who had been arrested for being in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The gold Mercedes-Benz matched the description of a hijacked car.

The TRF unit contacted the person who posted the information and found the woman used a gold Mercedes-Benz that matched the description of a vehicle that was wanted for robberies in and around the Krugersdorp area.

They ran the registration number and found it belonged to a Mercedes-Benz SUV and not a sedan. The TRF unit, accompanied by Sectors 3 and 4 Community Policing Forum members, then went to the plot in Sterkfontein where the two people were arrested.

They checked the VIN of the gold Mercedes-Benz and discovered it to be the vehicle that had been taken from its owner in Hartbeespoort during a hijacking.

The police were called and the vehicle was handed to them for further investigation.

In their crime analysis for October the company reported that house break-ins had been their most common crime, and electronics, gate motors, money and car theft had been the most common items stolen.

They recommended these tips to help keep your property safe:
• Arm you alarm when you are leaving your home, even for a short period of time.
• Ensure that you close and lock your doors, windows and garages when leaving your home.
• Activate your outdoor beams if you are busy indoors to alert you of intruders.
• To prevent burglars jumping over boundary walls, install an electric fence.
• Do not leave valuables (car keys, jewellery) near windows, as it will be stolen easily.
