Angry mob descends on suspect’s home: Police intervene

The Kagiso Police recently saved a man from angry community members.

It turned out the man was accused of armed robbery.

Captain Solomon Sibiya, Kagiso Police spokesperson explained that the police arrived at the Tshepisong man’s house on Sunday, 29 November at about 5.50pm. He was identified by a victim as the one who had committed an armed robbery.

Kagiso Sector Police members received a complaint of assault from a house in Tshepisong Phase 1. As they arrived at the given address, they noticed a group of people standing and shouting,” said Sibiya.

A man approached the police and told them that he had been a victim of a robbery earlier and that the robber had taken cash, a bag and three cellphones at gunpoint. He identified a 39-year-old male as the suspect.

“The suspect was trapped in his place of residence as angry residents waited for him at his gate.”

The victim told police that he had met and confronted the suspect earlier and the suspect had confessed to the crime. The victim then decided to mobilise community members and go to the suspect’s home.

The police arrived and took the suspect away while they continued with the investigations. Police also found the victims’ cellphone and an unlicensed firearm in his possession,” Sibiya said.

The man then took the police to a 20-year-old’s house, whom he claimed was his accomplice. The 20-year-old was also arrested and detained at the Kagiso Police Station.

“A case docket of possession of unlicensed firearm and stolen property was opened,” said Sibiya.
