Brave security guard catches burglar in Chamdor

A security guard who recently responded to information about a burglary caught the guy and handed him over to police.

A very brave security guard stopped and apprehended a suspect recently before handing him over to the Kagiso Police.

Captain Solomon Sibiya, the Kagiso Police spokesperson confirmed that a 35-year-old man was arrested at 1.40am on Wednesday, 2 December.

He said the man was caught while trying to break into the BP filling station on the corner of Mclean and Van Eck Streets in Chamdor. According to Sibiya the guard alleged that at 1.15am he was on duty at the garage when he received information about a burglary taking place.

The guard then started to inspect the premises and saw the suspect carrying a bag. He charged at the suspect.

The suspect dropped the bag and tried to flee the scene of the crime, but the guard gave chase and managed to apprehend him,” Sibiya said.

The guard found a firearm inside the suspect’s bag and then handed the suspect over to police. A case of business burglary, and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition has since been opened. The acting Kagiso Police station commander, Colonel Mangolo Mabso said Chamdor is one of the hot spots for business robberies.

“The apprehension of this suspect is a good success and a reward for our continued fight against burglaries in this industrial area,” he added.
