Man sentenced to 20 years for Breaunanda house robbery

A suspect linked to a house robbery six years ago was sentenced recently by the Krugersdorp Magistrates' Court.

Macdonald Hlatsswayo, 38, from Zola, Soweto recently appeared in court for armed robbery which occurred back in 2014 at a house in Breaunanda, Krugersdorp.

Captain Raymond Sebonyane, Krugersdorp Police spokesperson noted in a statement that, “The victim was doing laundry outside. She went inside the house and was suddenly accosted by an unknown male who was armed with a firearm and who instructed her to keep quiet.

Three other unknown males entered and took property from inside the house. They fled the scene with a plasma TV, DVD home theatre system, laptop and computer.”

The Local Criminal Record Centre reportedly lifted fingerprints from the scene of the crime, but no arrests were made at the time. Investigating officers Sergeant Lelahane and Sergeant Maswanganyi continued with the investigation.

“The fingerprints found at the scene were linked to Macdonald Hlatswayo. The investigating officers traced him and found that in March 2020, he had been sentenced by the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court for housebreaking and theft, and for robbery,” said Krugersdorp Police station commander, Brigadier Ngwako Mashao, adding that Hlatswayo subsequently was handed down a 20-year prison sentence by the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court, of which 12 years are to run concurrently with the sentence he is currently serving.
