Police arrest cheeky man with unlicensed firearm

After being asked to produce a licence for the firearm found in his possession, the man was arrogant towards police and this landed him in prison.

The police recently arrested a man who tried to be arrogant towards the police when they asked him for his firearm licence.

Captain Solomon Sibiya, the Kagiso Police spokesperson said they arrested a 36-year-old man at Hospital View on 10 January.

“Police were conducting an operation in and around Kagiso when they spotted the suspect walking along the street and looking suspicious,” Sibiya said.

He went on to explain that while conducting a body search police found a firearm on the man. They questioned him about the firearm and asked for his licence.

“He responded arrogantly and wanted to know what licence the police were looking for.”

The man was then placed under arrest and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Armed robberies are among the challenges in the area for us. People are robbed of their belongings and/ or raped at gunpoint almost weekly. This suspect will be investigated thoroughly to determine if his unlicensed firearm has ever been used in the commission of violent crime,” said Brigadier Themba Maduna, the Kagiso Police station commander.

The suspect has already made a brief appearance in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court and was remanded in custody for further police investigation.
