The West Warriors helping the needy

Community members and some Nedbank employees have come together to form the West Warriors and recently made multiple donations to various organisations.

To help support the rising need in the West Rand community as the country entered the festive season, Nedbank Home Loans’ West Warriors set out to help multiple organisations throughout the area in various ways.

“West Warriors is a team of passionate staff members from Nedbank and volunteers from the community,” explained Valma Buitendacht, Senior Home Loan Sales Consultant.

“Our name speaks for itself; no matter the battlefield, we will stand and unite to reach our goals. We are strong, fearless individuals during the difficult times when people need us the most. We help relieve the pressure and financial burdens of NGOs in our communities, and during 2021 we supported the Cradle of Hope and Matla A Bana.”

The Warriors donated food hamper buckets to the Cradle to help them meet their massive need as they feed hundreds of people daily. They also donated comfort packs to Matla A Bana which helps women and children who fall into difficult situations, such as gender-based violence. The team also later delivered multiple wrapped gifts to the Cradle of Hope to light up the Christmas period for a few of their beneficiaries, and handed out some comfort packs at the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court.

Valma added that, “Covid-19 ruined lives, tore families apart, brought so much sorrow. Families were left in total despair, with breadwinners being retrenched or having had to take salary cuts. We realised that we are fortunate to work for a great company, not just looking after our own but also empowering the staff to help others. Team members left no stone unturned to relieve the impact of Covid-19 and then the disaster of the looting in some areas.

“This left us feeling grateful to have a job and to be able to provide for our families. As long as we have to share, we will.”
