Police and the community worked together to bring a murder suspect to book in Magaliesburg.

Swift work and following through led to the arrest of a murder suspect in Magaliesburg recently.

Sergeant Kgomotso Comfort Mogwere from the Magaliesburg Police’s corporate communications said a 40-year-old man was arrested by police after receiving information from the community and investigating.

Mogwere said at about 8.40pm on Sunday, 20 December 2020, a man was stabbed in his upper body while at a tavern in Magaliesburg.

Magaliesburg Police attended the scene and found a victim lying in a pool of blood,” Mogwere explained.

The police also found a sharp object they suspect was used to commit the crime.

“According to information, the attacker fled the scene after stabbing the victim,” Mogwere said.

The victim was then taken to hospital by emergency services. Unfortunately on Tuesday, 5 January, the victim succumbed to his injuries.

Police then followed up on information from the community, which led to the arrest of the suspect, who will appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court.

Captain Irene Tshikhovhi, the acting Magaliesburg Police station commander, said crimes such as murder have a long-lasting emotional and psychological impact on the affected families.

Tshikhovhi thanked her members and the community for the joint effort and said, “We will continue to make sure that those who go on the wrong side of the law are brought to book and prosecuted”.
