Captain Solomon Sibiya, the Kagiso Police spokesperson confirmed that a 22-year-old man was apprehended and arrested after breaking into and stealing from a school.
He called these types of crimes horrendous and said it demands attention from every sector of society.
It rips off our children’s basic right to quality education. It does not discriminate against any race or religion, just like other crimes directed at vulnerable groups. It is happening because a market had been created within our society by self-centred criminals. The law must act decisively against perpetrators of such crime,” he said.
The Tshepisong man was arrested on 21 January at about 9am after police received a tip-off about the man’s whereabouts.
On 2 January, the suspect allegedly broke into a school and stole three electricity plugs, cables and other electrical appliances. He gained entry into the property by breaking open a door.
A guard who was on duty saw the man inside the premises and tried to apprehend him, but the intruder attacked the guard and tried to stab him. The guard managed to disarm him, but he got away and fled the scene injured but unarmed.
This type of crime is a disgrace to human nature, and anyone responsible must face the harshest side of the law. Well done to our members who never despaired and worked closely with our community,” said Brigadier Themba Maduna, the Kagiso Police station commander.
