What you can expect from Dr Yusuf Dadoo District Hospital during Covid times

The Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital responded to the News' questions to clear up some confusion around Covid-19 hospital admissions.

“While the second surge of Covid-19 is putting the whole world under pressure, Dr Yusuf Dadoo District Hospital remains open 24 hours a day, with no service interruptions,” said the hospital’s Communications Officer, Puseletso Mabidikame.

She responded to the News‘ questions to clear up some confusion around Covid-19 hospital admissions.

Mabidikame confirmed the hospital has re-purposed more than 100 beds, has skilled personnel and the maximum levels of personal protective equipment (PPE) are used to ensure the safety of the staff members and the patients.

Patients arriving at the hospital are required to show their Identity Document (ID) and payslip for payment classification in line with the Uniform Patient Fees Schedule guideline. The patient must also provide their correct physical address and contact details for their file.

Based on the treating doctor’s recommendation, patients who are seen at the Emergency Unit or the Outpatients Department may be tested for Covid-19.”

She said turnaround time for results could be 24 hours, unless further investigations need to be done.

Patients testing negative are required to continue taking precautions at home. Those who test positive should not panic and self- isolate at home, “… ideally alone in a room and away from other family members or roommates for a period of 10 days,” she advised.

Mabidikame added that it is important to keep an eye on your symptoms and call a doctor if you experience any persistent shortness of breath.

Seek immediate medical attention at a hospital facility, where you will be admitted to the relevant ward immediately for medical attention and further management.”

The hospital does not allow any visitors as a precautions against the spread of the disease.
