Armed robber who steals R10, cellphones caught by community

Two armed men recently robbed a man. Luckily one did not get far, as the community jumped in and helped.

Quick action from the community led to the successful arrest of an armed robber recently.

In a statement from the Kagiso Police’s spokesperson, Captain Solomon Sibiya, he explained that a 24-year-old man was placed under citizen’s arrest and handed over to police at 5.35am in Masibilanga, Kagiso on 3 March following a foiled armed robbery.

He said the victim was on his way home from work when two men approached him, each brandishing a weapon. The men demanded cash from the victim and took two cellphones and a R10 note at gun- and knifepoint.

The victim screamed for help and the suspects fled in different directions as residents responded. Residents gave chase and managed to apprehend one of the suspects.”

Police arrived and the community handed the suspect over to them; however, his accomplice is still at large and a search for him is ongoing.

“He can run as much as he wishes, but the long arm of the law will definitely catch up with him no matter when. If you commit crime, know that we will be coming for you; we won’t rest until we have you behind bars,” vowed Colonel Peter Mabuso, the acting station commander of the Kagiso Police.
