Rotary Club’s elderly get their Covid-19 jabs

The Rotary Club of Krugersdorp and the Health Department recently ensured that elderly residents get their Covid-19 vaccines.

The Rotary Club of Krugersdorp recently ensured that residents of their villages for the aged got their Covid-19 jabs.

Rotary Club president Dennis Pretorius said they provide accommodation to the aged community at two villages in Krugersdorp – the Golden Age Village where they house 128 seniors, and the memorial flats where they house 62 seniors.

Covid-19 is a challenge for the aged community, and the Rotary Club has followed Covid-19 protocols quite strictly. In the period since March 2020 we only had one fatality partially due to Covid-19. Two other patients who tested positive survived and are recovering,” he added.

Management recently arranged for residents of these villages to register for the vaccine and also approached the Health Department to vaccinate their registered residents on site.

On Friday, May 28 Health Department staff arrived in full force at the Golden Age Village where residents queued to get their jabs. Dennis added that this was all done under the able supervision of the nursing staff, and with a medical doctor available should any residents require post-vaccination attention.

“Residents were surprised by the ease of the process and the painless vaccine injection by the caring medical team of the Department of Health. A few residents showed mild discomfort for a few minutes but after careful observation by the medical team they all went home happy.”

The Rotary Club thanked the Health Department in the West Rand District for assisting them with this endeavour.
