Suspect can’t outrun his victims: A robbery gone wrong

A man who was part of a group of armed robbers was too slow to outrun his victims. They first assaulted him and then handed him over to the police.

The police arrested a 25-year-old man over the weekend after he and three others robbed a group of friends at gunpoint.

Kagiso Police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya said the friends had gathered when four intruders entered the yard. They were armed and took the victims’ cash and cell phones.

They subsequently fled the scene on foot, and the victims screamed and gave chase.

One of the suspect who was assaulted by the victims was handed over to the police and arrested at about 20:30 on Saturday September 4, explained Captain Sibiya.

The man was taken to the Kagiso Police Station and a case of robbery with a firearm was registered. The suspect had already appeared in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court on Monday and was remanded in custody for further investigation.
