Four believed to be killed in Chamdor shootout

It is reported that four people have been killed and one had to be airlifted following a shootout in Chamdor on Thursday afternoon.

Four people have died and one person had to be airlifted following a shootout in Chamdor on Thursday, September 9.

While the exact details surrounding the incident are unclear at this stage armed robbers reportedly entered a shop and pointed a gun at the cashier. A shootout allegedly ensued.

Johan Krogh, General manager of EPR security on the West Rand said the incident happened at one of their clients’ shops on Jacobs Street, Chamdor.

“We received a call from the premises shortly after the incident had happened,” Krogh said.

He added that it was still unclear who shot at who, but as far as they knew one robber was killed and one was seriously injured. Three employees/ security guards were also killed in the shootout.

A shootout ensued in Chamdor during an armed robbery.

“Our thoughts are with the families of the innocent victims. The scene was handed over to the police and cordoned off immediately.”

Marcel Jonker from Dowry told the News that they received the call on one of the groups, adding that they were aware that multiple people were shot. Netcare 911 airlifted one of the victims to hospital.

On the Mogale Response services Facebook page they said Netcare 911 assisted with the patients while the West Rand District Disaster Management (WRDM) Fire and Rescue, police, AfriForum Public Safety, Dowry Security, PnP security and JMPD were on scene.

“We pray for a speedy recovery for those involved,” the group posted.

According to those on scene it was difficult to control the crowd to make space for the helicopter to land.

Shawn Herbst from Netcare 911 confirmed that yesterday afternoon one patient was airlifted after suffering three gunshot wounds, and three patients were transported to hospital for various injuries. Two security guards were among those shot.

The News did reach out to the Kagiso and the Provincial Police for clarity and confirmation, but no response was received as yet.
