The past seven days have been busy for the EPR security team as in their latest crime report they indicate that 34 incidents were reported to them between September 6 and 12.
Johan Krogh, the general manager of EPR security on the West Rand said that crime was definitely not on the decrease in the area. They have also noticed an alarming increase in contact crimes over the past few weeks.
“Theft is once again at the top of the crime list for the past week and we urge residents to remain very vigilant at all times. We also noted several gate motor thefts in the Tarlton area.”
The 34 incidents reported included 12 thefts, four damage to property, five trespassing, two open doors, one for property found, five break-ins, one fire, two attempted thefts, and one robbery and murder.
On their Facebook page the company explained how dangerous it could be for their officers when they respond to a call; for example on Monday evening they received a panic signal from an abandoned business premises in Krugersdorp.
Illegal miners had started stripping the building and when the reaction officers arrived several shots were fired at them with automatic firearms.
Fortunately no one was hurt in this incident but a guard dog was fatally wounded.
