Youngster forced at gunpoint to hand over cell and give home address

Diligent police investigations and a positive identification by a young victim led to another suspected armed robber finding himself on the wrong side of the law.

Diligent investigation by the Kagiso Police ensured that another suspected armed robber would have his day in court soon.

Kagiso Police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya explained how the armed robbery happened.

He said the victim was walking to school on September 1 and was passing through Extension 8 at about 07:15 when a man approached him from behind.

The man pointed a firearm at him and demanded that he hand over his cell phone and give his home address.

The victim complied by handing over his cell phone but gave the robber the wrong address. The thug then fled the scene on foot and the matter was reported to the Kagiso Police.

“During police investigations, the victim was able to positively identify the suspect. The suspect was traced and eventually apprehended. He is due to appear in court soon,” added Sibiya.
