Quellerie Park — The HTS N Diederichs Technical High School is rapidly expanding, providing their growing learner population with new and improved learning opportunities.
With an estimated 1 000 plus learners set to attend the school in 2022, the school and the department felt it was time to expand. During the last semester of 2021, the school unveiled six new classrooms and already started making proper use of them.
“Our school is growing a lot and other extensions are on the horizon,” explained Life Orientation educator Reinette van Rensburg.
“We’re the only pure technical school for Grade 8s to Grade 12s in the country. Grade 8s and 9s are given an introduction to all the subjects,” she said, adding that by Grade 10 learners take the six compulsory subjects with one of nine fields of specialisation subjects, namely Civil Services, Construction, Woodworking, Electrical, Electronics, Digital Electronics, Fitting and Machining, Automotive and Welding, and Metalwork. Additionally, learners choose between Physical Science and Technical Science.”
The school is already looking at the next set of extensions to add more necessary classrooms and workshops.
