Five people found themselves behind bars when Magaliesburg Police discovered unlicensed firearms and ammunition – one of which could be linked to a business robbery in Limpopo – during a stop-and-search.

Magaliesburg Police spokesperson Sergeant Kgomotso Mogwere explained the arrest was made after two of their crime-prevention members, Sergeants Evance Mametja and Millie Motlhabi noticed a suspicious vehicle while patrolling on the R24 Rustenburg Road at about 16:15 on Monday, November 22.
“They spotted a silver Chevrolet Cruz LS with tinted windows approaching from the opposite side. The members immediately made a U-turn and followed the vehicle. They managed to stop it near a filling station and found five occupants – four men and a woman.”
When the police searched the vehicle they found two 9mm firearms, two magazines and 19 rounds of ammunition.
“The firearms and ammunition were seized immediately, and subsequently it was discovered that one firearm was linked to a case of business robbery in Makhado, Limpopo.”
Four men between the ages of 30 and 44 as well as a 22-year-old woman were arrested. They will all be appearing in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court.

Magaliesburg Police station commander Lieutenant Colonel Mawewe Vuma applauded the members for their efforts and proactive policing.
