Krugersdorp West fuel station robbed by man with R1 battle rifle

Another business, this time a fuel station, was targeted on Rustenburg Road, Krugersdorp West early on Tuesday morning.

Yet another business – this time a fuel station – was targeted on Rustenburg Road, Krugersdorp West early on Tuesday morning, November 30.

This comes a day after an armed man robbed a well-known retailer in Krugersdorp West.

Krugersdorp Police spokesperson Captain Raymond Sebonyane confirmed the fuel station robbery took place at about 06:00.

Two employees were doing a cash handover for the next shift at the till when a man walked in.

The man, who was alone, threatened the two with a firearm that he had under his jacket. He demanded the cash and then fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

“They pressed the panic alarm, and Mapogo Security responded and gave chase together with other coworkers,” Captain Sebonyane said.

A police member, Warrant Officer Levy Molepo from the Wedela Police who was on his way to work saw the man running. He also chased the man and apprehended him.

They found a R1 rifle, one magazine but no ammunition in the man’s possession.

The suspect aged 31 was detained at the Krugersdorp Police cells and will appear before the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court soon. No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.”

Captain Sebonyane said the Krugersdorp Police’s station commander Brigadier Happy Xaba applauded the members for a job well done.
