The Kagiso Police have launched a manhunt for a man from Rietvallei who allegedly stabbed his girlfriend several times before running away.
Kagiso Police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya said the victim’s mother was in Randfontein when she received a call on January 29 informing her that her daughter had been stabbed.
“She rushed back to her residence in Rietvallei where she found shocked members of the community standing in the street,” said Captain Sibiya.
Her daughter had already been rushed to hospital in a critical condition, and the Kagiso Police accompanied the mother to the hospital.
“The victim sustained multiple stab wounds to the right side of her neck, her back and her hand, and she was in a critical condition. The motive for the stabbing is being investigated by Kagiso Police.”
Captain Sibiya added that despite nationwide calls from law enforcement, women’s groups and human rights activists, some men still disregard these calls and have no respect for life.
“The suspect can run as much as he can, but he cannot forever hide from the long arm of the law,” warned Kagiso Police station head Brigadier Themba Maduna.
They are appealing to the community to come forward with information about the suspect’s whereabouts and call the Kagiso Police on 011 696 9059, 011 696 9060, 011 696 9065 or 011 696 9067.
