LETTER: Do miracles happen today?
'If your faith is shaking a bit, ask others to pray with you. I believe God still performs miracles today.'
• Pastor Gerrit Mes of the AFM Pentecostal Fellowship writes:
A miracle by definition is an act of God that cannot be attributed to any other explanation.
Many people claim to have the power to perform miracles. They end up on TV and draw great crowds. Being a natural sceptic that has been disappointed by so many false claims, I find myself asking, “Do miracles happen today?”
Maybe God stopped doing miracles. Maybe all the miracle workers become superstars that lose the plot, becoming self-centred.
Still, I meet people who not only believe in miracles but hope for one. An act of God in their lives is their only hope.
To build your faith, focus on some miracles evident around you. Things in nature. Swallows that migrate, clouds that bring rain, and the humble firefly that is more reliable than Eskom. All the miracles around us.
Then ask God, no demands, for the miracles you need. ‘Please’ is a keyword.
If your faith is shaking a bit, ask others to pray with you. I believe God still performs miracles today. Close your eyes, be quiet; He knows what you need.
