Another 169 arrested in 9-hour Okae Molao operation

Police recently held another Okae Molao operation with roadblocks in and around Mogale City. They arrested 169 people and issued almost R38K worth of traffic fines.

Police in the West Rand District sent a stern warning to criminals ahead of Easter following the arrest of 169 suspects during a nine-hour Okae Molao operation in the Magaliesburg, Hekpoort and Tarlton areas on Thursday, March 31.

Authorities involved in the operation included members of the police, Gauteng Traffic Police, the Departments of Community Safety and Home Affairs as well as the CPF.

West Rand District Police spokesperson Sergeant Kgomotso Mogwere said the operation was structured into two roadblocks on the R24/ N14 and R563/ R400 supported by three crime-prevention teams.

The 169 people were arrested for various crimes:

• Two for possession of drugs
• One for possession of dagga
• One for armed robbery
• One for possession of ammunition
• One for possession of ammunition (warrant of arrest)
• One for murder
• Two for possession of housebreaking implements
• 12 for possession of drugs (warrant of arrest)
• One for reckless and/ or negligent driving
• 18 for theft
• One for pointing a firearm
• Five for drunken driving (notice to appear before court)
• Nine for fraud
• Three for attempted murder
• Two for contempt of court
• Two for culpable homicide
• One for contravening a protection order
• One for damage to essential infrastructure
• One for theft out of a motor vehicle
• Three for intimidation
• Nine for malicious damage to property
• Nine for rape
• Six for housebreaking and theft
• 47 for assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm
• 31 for common assault
• 15 illegal immigrants

In addition, four liquor outlets were closed and 30 Road Traffic Act related fines to the value of R37 960 were issued.

All arrested suspects will appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court soon.
