Cops-public bond leads to illegal ammo arrests

Magaliesburg Police reacted swiftly on information and arrested two men for being in possession of illegal ammo at a taxi rank and informal settlement respectively.

The special bond developing between the police and community paid dividends as two men were arrested in two separate incidents for being in possession of unlicensed ammunition.

On Wednesday afternoon, March 30, Sergeants Evance Mametja, Millie Motlhabi and Constance Mokoena of the Magaliesburg Crime Prevention Unit received a tip-off from a community member about a person in possession of ammunition at the Magaliesburg Taxi Rank.

Magaliesburg Police spokesperson Sergeant Kgomotso Mogwere said the three police officers reacted immediately and spotted a person that matched the description of the suspect.

He was searched and two live rounds of 9mm ammunition were found in his possession. He consequently was arrested.”

In a separate incident later that same day, police were conducting a stop-and-search at the Ga-mogale informal settlement when they stopped a suspicious person and asked to search him. He tried to evade the police and was cornered by community members.

“He was searched and three live rounds of 9mm ammunition were found in his possession. He too was arrested.”

The suspects will appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court soon.
