Crime-ridden areas get mobile police station

Kagiso police have recently unveiled their new mobile police station which will allow them to easily reach more remote areas in and around Kagiso.

To help combat crime in the area, Kagiso Police along with many other stakeholders introduced a new facility on Thursday, March 31 which will help cover the Soul City, Rietvallei, Tshepisong and Swaneville policing areas.

Captain Solomon Sibiya, Kagiso Police spokesperson said, “Soul City informal settlement is a well-known crime hotspot in Kagiso. In the last two months the area has experienced heinous contact crimes like attempted murder, murder, kidnapping and rape.

As residents have continuously complained about the long distances to the police station and poor reaction time by police, it was ideal for the law-enforcement agencies to bring much-needed services closer to the people of all affected areas.”

To this effect, Gauteng Community Safety under MEC Faith Mazibuko, Kagiso Police under Brigadier Themba Maduna, local CPF and other safety patrollers, Gender-based Violence Brigades, ward councillors, Public Safety, religious and traditional representatives and a few non-profit organisations attended the official handover of a mobile police truck to help the community.

The truck is a mini mobile police station with all the resources that are found at a normal station. Residents will be able to report and open cases. Law transgressors will be detained in the facility’s cell unit,” explained Sibiya.

MEC Mazibuko said to the community, “I want you to take care of this facility and not flock into it to do affidavits and certifications only. Registered pastors and priests must also assist police by providing such services. I want the police to focus on more serious issues like gender-based violence and murder.”

Residents were also given an opportunity to express their opinions about the project.
