Child, 3, killed in taxi violence

A little girl was shot and killed while her father, a taxi owner, was taking her to crèche.

A three-year-old girl died after thugs opened fire on her father, who is a taxi owner.

The incident happened at about 08:00 on Tuesday, April 26 in Extension 12, Kagiso.

Kagiso Police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya explained that a 39-year-old taxi owner was ambushed while he was on his way to drop off his daughter at crèche.

Witnesses alleged that the victim had just stopped at the corner of Geba and Sandpiper Street when unknown gunmen appeared.”

They started firing shots at the Toyota Corolla and the three-year-old who was in the backseat of the car sustained gunshot wounds to her head and body. Her father was shot in the upper body and arm. He was rushed to hospital in his brother’s vehicle, but the little girl died on scene.

“Eleven empty cartridges were found on the scene of the crime and the motive for the shooting is being investigated by the Taxi Violence special unit.”

The Kagiso Police have opened attempted murder and murder dockets.
