Man gets 13 years imprisonment for robbing learner

Bongani Ngogo, 24, was convicted by the Krugersdorp Magistrates' Court and received a sentence of 13 years in prison, of which five years were suspended for five years.

A 24-year-old Munsieville man was sentenced to 13 years imprisonment after he was found guilty of robbing a 16-year-old learner.

Captain Raymond Sebonyane from the Krugersdorp Police said their station commander, Brigadier Happy Xaba was proud of detective Sergeant Andrew Maswanganyi who ensured the conviction.

The 24-year-old Bongani Ngogo was convicted by the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court on Friday, May 13 and received a sentence of 13 years in prison, of which five years were suspended for five years.

Sebonyane said on Friday June 11, 2021 at about 15:10 the 16-year-old victim was walking in Buiten Street, Krugersdorp North and eating chips with his friend. They were then accosted by an unknown man who threatened them with a knife, took the victim’s Samsung A10 S and ran away.

The suspect was later apprehended by security officers and he was handed to the police.”

A case of robbery with a weapon or instrument other than a firearm was opened and investigated by detective Sergeant Maswanganyi.

Xaba also thanked the security officers for working hand in hand with the police in the fight against crime.
