LETTER: Some people are just dark clouds

'Many of the happy people I know don’t have any reason to be happy. They are battling cancer, coping with divorce and struggling financially. But they are happy and nice to be around' – local pastor.

• Pastor Gerrit Mes of the AFM Pentecostal Fellowship writes:

The words of a Pink Zebra song are a power reminder of “Just be happy”. “Sing a favourite song, and the world will sing along, we can brighten every day with the things we do and say.” Going through the day, I realise how others can affect my day, and how I can change someone else’s day.

Some people are just dark clouds. Always negative, complaining about everything. The only exercise some people get is jumping to conclusions and pushing their luck. Five minutes in their company and you become overpowered by doom and gloom.

Other people just brighten up your day. Bring a smile to your face and a song on your lips. Lucky people they are.

No, many of the happy people I know don’t have any reason to be happy. They are battling cancer, coping with divorce and struggling financially. But they are happy and nice to be around.

I want to be one of those people. I want to bring joy, a ray of sunlight and hope into the lives of people who cross my path.

Who will you meet today, and what will you leave them with? Jesus said, “You are the light of the world”. So, get switched on.
