On June 30 there was another instalment of Operation OKae Molao across Mogale City.
The operation was conducted as far afield as Hekpoort, Tarlton and Magaliesburg from about 06:00. Members of police stations within the West Rand District, Mogale Traffic Police, Gauteng Department of Community Safety, Public Order Policing, Community Policing Forums and the Department of Home Affairs all joined forces under the command of the District Commissioner Major General Fred Kekana.
The operation focused on crime prevention; roadblocks; compliance of liquor and secondhand-goods outlets; searching for stolen or illegal goods being transported, illegal firearms, drugs, stolen or hijacked vehicles, and stolen livestock; and the detectives tracing wanted suspects.
During the preceding parade, Kekana reminded all members of their mandate to prevent any action that may threaten the safety or security of any community, and encouraged them to participate in all endeavours to address the root causes of crime in the community.
A total of 110 suspects were arrested during the operation.
They were arrested for murder (5), assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (23), common assault (2), armed robbery (3), domestic violence (11), housebreaking and theft (5), theft out of motor vehicle (2), theft (13), malicious damage to property (5), possession of unlicensed firearm (3), possession of drugs (2), possession of stolen property (4), possession of dagga (1), driving while under the influence of alcohol (1), damage to essential infrastructure (3) and dealing in liquor without a license (3).
Arrests were also made for various crimes such as pointing a firearm, contravention of protection order, and possession of housebreaking implements, while 20 illegal immigrants were nabbed.
During the roadblock, fines to the value of R32 600 were issued.
