School learner assault case: Defence claims they never received crucial evidence

AfriForum got on board after suspicious interference in the case by the police.

Tuesday morning, July 5, the case against 52-year-old Oupa Chembe was once again postponed when his defence claimed they never received CCTV footage of the incident, which is regarded as a crucial piece of evidence in the case.

Chembe stands accused of damaging the property of and assaulting Zander Oosthuizen, who at the time of the incident in August 2021 was a school learner. The incident took place outside Key West Shopping Centre.

A provisional date, July 20, has been set to ensure that the defence receives the evidence. The case will proceed in the Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court once this has been established.
