The Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court sentenced the 28-year-old Purasi Mapfungwe of Lewisham to three years imprisonment on July 1, after he was found guilty on a charge of possession of explosives.
Last year on December 21 Sergeants Abram Sebelemetja and Stella Mavuso were doing patrols in and around Krugersdorp. They spotted a suspicious male on Morcom Street in Lewisham carrying a plastic bag. They stopped and searched him and found 27 Peligro explosives cords. Since Mapfungwe could not explain to the police why he was in possession of the explosives he was arrested, charged and detained. The docket was assigned to detective Sergeant Trevor Tshepo Nhlapo who investigated the case and made sure that the state got a solid conviction.
The Krugersdorp Police Station commander, Brigadier Happy Xaba, applauded the arresting and investigating officers for a job well done.
