Local angler drowns in Hartbeespoort Dam

Family member confirmed his body was found.

The body of 42-year-old Michael Pohl, who went missing while fishing at Hartbeespoort Dam last Thursday, July 14, has been found.

A relative confirmed to the News on Tuesday, July 19 that Pohl’s body was found at about 11:00 on July 18.

The family member also confirmed that the family resides in Krugersdorp and not in Pretoria as reported elsewhere.

Pohl was fishing from his canoe near Eagle Waters Wildlife Resort when the incident happened. It is alleged that the canoe capsized about 100 metres from the shore after getting caught in illegal fishing nets. The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), SAPS and their divers had been searching for Pohl since Thursday.

He would have celebrated his birthday on July 15.
