Woman raped and assaulted: Police ID man who might have witnessed crime

The police are appealing to the community to assist them in finding a man who witnessed the assault and rape of a woman in June.

The Kagiso police are asking the community for their help to find a man who witnessed the assault and rape of a woman near a tavern recently.

The Kagiso police spokesperson, Captain Solomon Sibiya explained in a statement that the assault and rape were committed near a tavern in Rietvallei Extension 3 in June.

The victim alleged that the suspect was wearing grey jeans, a black leather jacket and a black beanie. He is between 36 and 40 years old, speaks Southern Sotho (sePedi), is dark in complexion and very aggressive. The suspect allegedly called and insisted on speaking to her in front of tavern bouncers,” Captain Sibiya said.

An argument ensued between the victim and the suspect which led to the suspect slapping the victim across the face with his open hand. The suspect then allegedly drew a knife and was later assisted to drag the woman to the nearest open field.

There the suspect raped the victim at knife point while his accomplices held her to the ground.
