The department now provides an appeals process for NPOs who wish to reconsider their applications.
“We acknowledge the hard work and dedication of all NPOs that submitted funding applications for the current cycle 2025/ 26 and recognised the vital role NPOs play in uplifting communities and supporting the most vulnerable members of society. If your funding application was not successful, you have the right to appeal.
This process allows NPOs to present additional information or clarify existing submissions to support their case for funding reconsideration,” the department’s spokesperson, Busi Kheswa, said.
These are the steps to follow when appealing:
1. Receipt of regret letter
The department, through the relevant regional manager/ directors, will issue a formal regret letter outlining the outcome of your funding application.
2. Appeals submission deadline
If your organisation wishes to appeal the outcome, you must submit your appeal within seven working days of receiving the regret letter.
3. Where to send appeals
Appeals must be submitted via email to the following officials:
• Office of the Deputy Director-General: Social Welfare Services – Onkemetse.Kabasia@gauteng.gov.za
• Thembeka Mkhwanazi, Secretariat of the Appeals Committee – Thembeka.Mkhwanazi@gauteng.gov.za
• Lerato Bob, Acting Director: Partnerships and Financing – Lerato.Bob@gauteng.gov.za
4. Acknowledgement and review
Once your appeal is received, the department will acknowledge receipt. Depending on the nature of your appeal, the committee may respond in writing or schedule a session, either virtual or physical, for a formal review.
5. Outcome communication
The department will inform you of the decision made by the Appeals Committee within five working days after the committee has met.
We encourage all organisations to make use of this process should they have valid grounds for appeal.”
