Koketso Mlongo: From schoolboy dream to filmmaking star
With only passion, a camera and determination, Koketso Mlongo is turning his childhood dream into reality, one frame at a time.
Since he was a young schoolboy, Koketso Mlongo started developing a passion for filmmaking, with big aspirations.

For him, it all began in school. His mother, who worked as a domestic worker, received a camera as a gift from her employer. She saw it as a simple toy, but he saw it as a golden opportunity.
“Instead of using it just for play, I embraced this gift and began exploring the world of filmmaking. This initial spark ignited my passion, leading me to create a film company, and I have been dedicated to honing my craft ever since,” Koketso explained.
It has always been his dream to work in this industry alongside legends.
Today, I’m excited to see how far I’ve come in my filmmaking journey, and I look forward to continuing to grow and innovate in this field,” Koketso said.
He continued to say that anyone can get involved in this field.
“Achieving success requires more than just a desire to join. It demands a deep love for storytelling, an unwavering passion for the craft, and a strong dedication to continuous learning and improvement,” he said.
He added that he has been fortunate to volunteer in various productions, gaining valuable experience as part of the crew. Additionally, he has attended several workshops that have furthered his skills in this field.
“Throughout my journey, I had the opportunity to work on a few films, and I am proud to say that I have been recognised as one of the best upcoming filmmakers in my community. I am now excited to take the next step and pursue opportunities at the national level,” he continued.
His ultimate goal is to develop and refine his skills to become a top filmmaker recognised internationally.
