Festive fun and community spirit at the Kraft Co Christmas Market
Beyond festive décor and twinkling lights, the Kraft Co Christmas Market at Silverstar empowers locals through seasonal employment, vendor opportunities, and a curated retail experience designed to inspire connection.
The wait is over for some Christmas cheer at Silverstar, with the Kraft Co Christmas Market.
Running until December 24, market director Zané van Niekerk said it will be open seven days a week from 09:00 to 21:00, including public holidays.
“The market promises a shopping and social experience that captures the true magic of the season – bursting with creativity, colour, and proudly local spirit,” she said.
Kraft Co does not simply host markets – it curates experiences that bring communities together. She added that returning visitors will see the difference immediately. This year’s market features fresh, never-before-seen products and exciting new local brands, alongside beloved favourites that regulars look forward to. It is a blend of the new and the nostalgic, all with a distinctly South African twist.
The Krugersdorp News attended the opening on November 21, where shoppers were spoilt for choice. From unique toys for children to specialised braai equipment for the home, there is plenty to keep the whole family entertained. There are also items not easily found elsewhere, such as hats made from cork and cutting boards with built-in marinade trays.

Experience the magic of the season
Zané said visitors can stroll through twinkling stalls, enjoy the festive atmosphere, and explore the best of local craftsmanship and flavours – all under a large white marquee created to deliver an authentic Christmas-market feel.
Visitors can browse handcrafted décor, festive gifts, boutique fashion, footwear, leather goods, toys, gadgets, novelties and collectables. From beautifully wrapped artisan gifts and home décor to South Africa’s favourite fudge, sweets and festive treats, there is something for every taste and age.
“And keep your eyes open – word has it that this year, Father Christmas has traded his sleigh for something shiny, red, and full of personality. You’ll have to visit the market to uncover the surprise that’s set to become the most-talked-about photo stop of the season! With its magical mix of sights, sounds, and scents, this is more than just a market – it’s an immersive Christmas experience that truly captures the heart of the season.”

A full day of family fun at Silverstar
A visit to the market makes for a full day out. Browse the stalls, then enjoy the restaurants and coffee shops on the piazza, relax by the fountains, catch a movie, try your luck in the casino, or let the kids burn off energy at the arcade. The market is the ideal stop before or after a show.
Zané added that with free entry, family-friendly facilities and plenty to explore, the market becomes the ultimate festive destination – where shopping meets entertainment and every visit creates new memories.
One visitor, Minette de Wet, said there are numerous creative items for sale.
“It is very pleasant, and you can see that there was a lot of effort put into this market. There is something for everyone,” she said.

Crafted with heart – powered by local talent
Behind every stall and string of lights is a team passionate about creativity, community and connection. Zané explained that vendors are carefully selected, product ranges curated, and layouts designed with purpose. Nothing is left to chance – from stall placement to the flow of foot traffic, everything aims to give visitors a world-class market experience.
One vendor, Anli Meintjies, attends numerous markets, including this one, after starting her business when her husband passed away during the Covid period.
“Our team is small, local, and deeply passionate about what they do. We don’t just build markets, we build memories – spaces where people meet, share stories, and rediscover the joy of giving,” she said.

Empowering local people and creating opportunities
Beyond the festive décor, Kraft Co is committed to uplifting the local community. Van Niekerk said each Christmas market creates seasonal employment for carefully selected locals, offering hands-on experience in customer service, market operations and merchandising. Local contractors and service providers also help ensure the market runs smoothly.
“Some of these young team members go on to start their own business or continue in retail, thanks to the skills learned at Kraft Co’s markets. It’s not just about selling products – it’s about building people, confidence, and opportunity.”

She added that the festive excitement extends beyond the market. Tune in to 90.6 FM Radio for live updates, on-air interviews, and Kies & Keur Market competitions in the Vaal area. Listeners stand a chance to win unique handcrafted gifts directly from the market floor.
“Expect festive shout-outs, surprise giveaways, and exclusive on-air prizes that bring the buzz of the market straight to your ears. When the airwaves meet the aisles, the Christmas magic truly comes alive – and you’ll want to be part of it. This year, Christmas shopping isn’t a chore – it’s an experience. Don’t miss it!” she concluded.
