20 athletes to pull 14-ton truck through Krugersdorp

A team of 20 athletes will put their strength and endurance to the test when they pull a 14-tonne truck through Krugersdorp as part of The Bigg Pull.

A 14-tonne truck will make its way through Krugersdorp on November 3, but it won’t be pulled by a tow truck. Instead, a team of people will be doing the pulling.

The Bigg Pull is a national endurance challenge in which a team of 20 athletes pulls a truck from Centurion to Paarl over 41 days, covering about 1 671km.

The initiative combines physical endurance with a message of national unity and community involvement, while raising awareness and support for charities along the route.

The challenge, which first took place in 2003, returns this year and will pass through Krugersdorp via the N14 and R28 as the team makes its way towards the Western Cape.

“Along the way, the team passes through town after town, pulling communities into one shared story of strength, endurance and unity, broadcast live every day,” the organisers explain on their website.

Residents are encouraged to look out for the team along the route on November 3 and witness the unusual endurance challenge as it makes its way through the area.
