Annual Dros golf day helps raise funds for transplant foundation

The popular Dros Krugersdorp golf day once again drew a full field of players, with proceeds benefiting the Heart and Organ Transplant Foundation.

For the past 20 years, a Krugersdorp golf day has done more than bring players together on the fairway – it has helped support life-saving organ transplant initiatives across South Africa.

Dros Krugersdorp hosted its annual golf day on May 7, with all funds raised going to the Heart and Organ Transplant Foundation. According to organiser Joey Warby, the event was established two decades ago to support the foundation after his brother underwent a heart transplant.

“We started this foundation after my brother had a heart transplant, and we do this to rather give than get,” he explained.

Funds raised from the event are donated to Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital in Cape Town, where they are used for initiatives such as training doctors in the field of organ transplants.

The golf day attracted 196 players, with tickets selling out within the first week.

Joey described the atmosphere as energetic, with the focus on fun, relaxation and community involvement.

“It was a day for players to relax, have fun, and for businesses to get involved with the community, all while supporting a good cause,” he said.

Riecus Liebenberg, who has participated in the golf day for the past three years, described it as both enjoyable and meaningful.

“I always have fun with my friends, and despite the golf not always going so well, it is great to build and grow existing relationships,” he concluded.
